People’s Choice winners announced at Gardening Scotland

Visitors attending Gardening Scotland this weekend have decided on the well-deserved ‘People’s Choice’ winners for the 2016 show.

On what was an exceptionally busy start to the three day event,  the ‘I Dig It Award’ for the Best Show Garden, sponsored by Bakker.com was awarded to the Scottish Prison Service.

The Show Garden ‘Within these walls – a journey inside’ was designed and created by men from Glenochil prison in Alloa and women from Cornton Vale prison in Stirling.  It showcased the horticultural knowledge and skills of more than 40 men and women from both prisons, taking visitors on a journey through the life of a prisoner – from the initial dark and lonely days through to the brighter moments of creating new friendships and embarking on new endeavours. One of the key features of the garden was a wrought iron ‘tree of hope’.

The Sunday Post’s People’s Choice Award was awarded to the Dalgety Bay Horticultural Society for their exhibit in the Floral Hall called ‘Green from the Rubble’. The Society worked with local Soroptimists on the exhibit which highlighted the difficulties experienced by the Nepalis in the aftermath of the country’s recent earthquake.

Meanwhile, the winners of the Pallet Garden Competition, organised for Gardening Scotland by the Scottish Gardeners’ Forum were also announced.  Garden clubs and schools from across Scotland took part in the competition to create miniature pallet and planter gardens measuring one metre by one metre.  The winners of the Pallet Garden Competition are as follows:
